Edouard Duval-Carrie, the Haitian-born artist who is a force of nature in Miami’s Caribbean community, is represented in major collections and museums locally and across the country. Not only do I love his work and think his studio is wonderful, but I completely admire his commitment to the arts of Haiti and the Caribbean, and to Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood. As a curator, Duval-Carrie is responsible for the small but smashing exhibition, Global Caribbean, at the Little Haiti Cultural Center (260 NE 59th Terrace, Miami), which runs through March 30 and is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. The other day, however, Duval-Carrie showed me his newest work, a poster that serves a powerful purpose, relief for Haiti’s artists through the Haitian Art Relief Fund. The poster is at once beautiful and tragic, a shattered Port-au-Prince cathedral held from below by a siren mermaid, and it is available unsigned for $100 or signed for $250.  Titled Ayiti Kanpe Djamn (or Haiti Hold Yourself), the poster can be purchased through the Haitian Art Relief Fund website.
