March marks the beginning of Dade Heritage Days — a two-month amalgam of architectural tours, recital series, garden tours, canoe trips and lectures celebrating Miami’s historic treasures. Hosted by the Dade Heritage Trust, the 65-plus events are spread citywide, from a walking tour in the Design District to a road rally through the Redlands. Dade Heritage Days aims to increase the public’s appreciation of Miami’s architectural, environmental and cultural heritage: “People don’t understand what wonderful historic resources we have in this county,” says Becky Matkov, president of the Trust. The event kicks off tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. with a reception at the Miami Design Preservation League (1001 Ocean Drive). Guest speakers are architect Enrique H. Gutierrez (his Bacardi Building is shown) and University of Miami School of Architecture professor Jan Hochstim, both of whom will discuss Miami’s mid-20th century Modern architecture. Visit the Dade Heritage Trust’s website for a complete list of events.
